It is a basic duty of every civilised country to protect genuine refugees and asylum seekers who are escaping persecution and natural disasters. To be effective and sustainable, the asylum system must filter out those trying to game the system to evade the normal rules of citizenship. Refugees and asylum seekers must return to their country or region as soon as it is safe to do so. They should be accommodated in the nearest similar safe country. Resources must be given to support other countries receiving large numbers of refugees.
