Everyone should have easy access to accurate information via the media, books, word of mouth and Internet. This enables us to learn, adapt, be aware of opportunities and threats, maximise creativity, make decisions, advance science, hold the government to account and advance cultural evolution. The media is a powerful force for good or evil. That power comes with the responsibility to provide broad and balanced information with minimum bias, propaganda and manipulation. A narrow social group determines the acceptable undesirable boundaries of debate. Political correctness and corporate interests must never be permitted to suppress deep democracy. Media organisations must be held accountable to the public to ensure that their content is accurate, informative and includes all voices and perspectives. This means including voices that some people find irritating, offensive, unacceptable, rude, challenging and uncomfortable.
