We should invest substantially and wisely in medical research in the developing world. This is not only to outsource research cost effectively. It is to take advantage of the creativity, diversity and different challenges of the rest of the world in advancing medical science. The developing world is much more in touch with traditional holistic medicine. Because their systems are under much greater pressure, it is likely that they will innovate holistic, non-medical, simple, community-based and preventative interventions that may not have occurred to our technical industrialised system.
