Most of us prefer not to talk or think about death. We pretend that we will be young, fit and healthy forever and as that ceases to be the case, we resist it then eventually succumb. We are all going to die and it makes sense to accept that early on. For many people the last few hours, months and years of life can be a struggle through to avoid death while enduring suffering. Much of our medical budget is spent avoiding death rather than promoting a healthy life. There is increasing evidence through near death experiences that physical death may not be the end, as we have assumed. Since there is a chance that consciousness goes on after death, we should aim to die well.
