Across all dimensions of life, we must endeavour to be as fair as we reasonably and practically can be. Human beings can be highly cooperative, collaborative, kind, supportive, selfless and sacrificing. We can also be selfish, harsh, cruel, prejudiced, cheating, lying, stealing, entitled and freeloading. It is easier to define and detect explicit criminal behaviour than it is to point out the more subtle abuses of entitlement and freeloading. It goes on in every area of life, from the welfare system to businesses and public services, where it is effectively disguised with good social skills and game-playing. We must be vigilant and quick to challenge it.
