Present generations have an incredibly short attention span and time horizon. We get bored quickly. We want our wars to be over within six months. Politicians focus on the next election and the next news cycle. Chinese foreign policy has got its eyes set on the next 100 years. Business focuses on the next quarterly figures and the share price rather than the medium and long-term future. This puts us at a disadvantage. While it is excellent to be very alert and aware in the present moment, we do also need to have the patience to commit to things and see them through. We must commit to thinking strategically and long-term. We must think of future generations.
