Democracy isn’t a done deal or a problem that has been solved. We need to treat it like a garden, tending it and weeding it in order to keep it healthy. The ideas and institutions that make up democracy should be constantly evolving – constantly being adjusted and improved. It is never going to be perfect and, if done right, it can be messy, noisy and uncomfortable. But, as Winston Churchill once said, democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried.
